Student Protection Plan

Two Crucial Documents Every Young Adult Should Have

With the arrival of summer, young people across Tennessee are reaching a key milestone- High School Graduation. If your child is graduating, now is the time to help them to leave the nest while also making sure there's still a safety net in case of an emergency.

Current privacy laws, especially ones on college campuses, make it uncertain whether you would be allowed to be contacted if something happens to your student. Even more, you may not be able to help them in the event of an emergency.

For example, should your child get into a serious car accident and require hospitalization, you would no longer have the automatic authority to make decisions about his or her medical treatment or be able to help with their other affairs. Even worse, you may be required to get a court order to access his or her medical records, bank account information, etc.

To make sure that you can be there if your child needs you after they leave the nest, have a conversation with your child about our Student Protection Plan before your he or she heads off to college to get these crucial documents in place.
